I've been using it for surface mount and small through hole projects, as well as soldering to traces not fun. Cheaper irons have tips that are too large and they will not hit the capacitors very well. This soldering iron uses the Weller mp series auto slide in tips and is ul listed. One on each side of a surface mount capacitor and they easily are removed.

The temperature is good for the lead free solder as well. I had a situation with extremely small wires and a flexible circuit board. I was also that moron who ruined a few game consoles and random household gadgets until I realized that I needed a less hot, smaller tipped iron to do precision work. It melts the lead free solder quickly and without disturbing the area around the components being removed.

It makes what used to seem complicated so easy that I feel like a wizard. It is simply a wonderful low power iron. This is a perfect soldering iron, where low heat is desirable.
